Ayurveda, the ancient system of medicine from India, has a holistic approach to detoxification known as "Panchakarma." This process aims to cleanse the body, mind, and spirit by removing toxins (ama) and restoring the balance of the three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Ayurvedic detox methods emphasize natural techniques to promote the body's self-healing capabilities and enhance overall well-being.

Ayurvedic Detox Techniques

Panchakarma: Panchakarma is the cornerstone of Ayurvedic detoxification and consists of five main cleansing therapies. It is often performed under the guidance of an Ayurvedic practitioner and is customized to the individual's dosha and health condition. The five therapies are:

Vamana (Therapeutic Vomiting): Used primarily to eliminate excess Kapha from the stomach and respiratory tract.

Virechana (Purgation): Involves the use of herbal laxatives to cleanse the intestines and remove toxins, mainly Pitta, from the liver and gallbladder.

Basti (Enema): Herbal enemas are used to cleanse the colon and remove Vata-related toxins. There are two types of Basti: oil-based (Anuvasana) and decoction-based (Niruha).

Nasya (Nasal Cleansing): Nasal drops with medicated oils are used to clear the sinuses, improve breathing, and remove toxins from the head and neck region.

Raktamokshana (Bloodletting): A specialized therapy to purify the blood and treat skin disorders. It is not commonly used today but is sometimes practiced with alternative methods like leech therapy.

Dietary Guidelines for Detox:

Eat Seasonal and Organic Foods: Fresh, whole foods are emphasized in an Ayurvedic detox. Organic fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes are preferred.

Follow a Dosha-Balancing Diet: Tailor your diet to your dominant dosha (Vata, Pitta, or Kapha) to maintain balance and promote detoxification.

Include Detoxifying Herbs and Spices: Herbs like turmeric, ginger, cumin, coriander, fennel, and cinnamon help improve digestion and remove toxins from the body.

Eat Warm, Cooked Foods: Warm, easy-to-digest foods like soups, stews, and cooked vegetables are recommended to aid digestion and detoxification.

Herbal Remedies: Ayurvedic herbs are often used to support the detox process and enhance the body's ability to eliminate toxins:

Triphala: A combination of three fruits (amalaki, bibhitaki, and haritaki) that supports digestion, detoxification, and regular bowel movements.

Neem: Known for its blood-purifying and antimicrobial properties, neem helps cleanse the skin and improve immunity.

Turmeric: Has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that support liver function and detoxification.

Abhyanga (Oil Massage): Daily self-massage with warm herbal oils is recommended to stimulate circulation, promote lymphatic drainage, and remove toxins from the tissues. The type of oil used depends on the individual's dosha:

Vata: Sesame or almond oil

Pitta: Coconut or sunflower oil

Kapha: Mustard or safflower oil

Hydration with Herbal Teas: Drinking warm herbal teas throughout the day helps flush out toxins and supports digestion. Common Ayurvedic teas include:

Cumin-Coriander-Fennel (CCF) Tea: Helps improve digestion and cleanse the body.

Ginger Tea: Stimulates digestion and metabolism while enhancing detoxification.

Tulsi (Holy Basil) Tea: Known for its adaptogenic properties, it helps reduce stress and supports the immune system.

Tongue Cleaning and Oil Pulling:

Tongue Cleaning: Scraping the tongue every morning removes accumulated toxins (ama) and bacteria from the tongue's surface, enhancing taste and digestion.

Oil Pulling: Swishing oil (usually sesame or coconut) in the mouth for 10-15 minutes helps draw out toxins from the gums and teeth and promotes oral health.

Yoga and Pranayama (Breathing Exercises):

Yoga: Specific yoga poses, like twists, forward bends, and inversions, can stimulate digestion, improve circulation, and aid the body's detox processes.

Pranayama: Breathing exercises like Kapalabhati (skull-shining breath) and Anulom Vilom (alternate nostril breathing) help purify the respiratory system and calm the mind.

We serve fresh nutritious food for our yogic guests from our in-house sattvic kitchen. Our kitchen staff has years of experience in preparing and serving Indian healthy food like Ayurvedic Khicri, Rotis, Multi-flavoured Rice, Biryani, Dahls, Idlis, Dalia, Poha, Mix-veg Pranthas, etc. All the ingredients such as spices, raw vegetables, fruits, milk, yogurt, etc are sources from local village organic vendors.

Our refreshing Indian Masala Chai or Tea with Milk and without Milk are one of the favourite beverages of our guests. The spices like ginger, cardamom, clove, cinnamon, turmic make it a special drink of the area.
